ENGLISH AND HUMANITIES

The start of 2017 has brought with it some challenges with construction work still in progress in the main office. But the bigger picture means that we will have a lovely, inviting area for the parents to come, and a bigger and better art room for the students! We can’t wait for construction work to be finished so that we can start using it!

Today saw the beginning of the Year 7/8 PE classes. They travelled to Koryo Taekwondo and used up the last of their energy by hitting and kicking at the air, and some specially made bags. Mohammad helped the trainer demonstrate some moves, while Ashlee showed the students exactly how stretching should be done, and Zainab was game enough to try to cross the monkey bars a few times, but eventually found it too slippery and jumped down. The students will all be very sore the next day, but it was worth it to see them laughing and smiling so much.

In the English class, students are working on an Oral Presentation which aims to introduce all students to each other, and tell us about their likes and what makes them who they are.

Some of the students, along with Mr. Engin, Mr. Baydogan and myself were privileged to attend the Anniversary of the National Apology breakfast this year also. We listened to some moving recollections of the Stolen Generation, and a reading of the apology which was given by then-Prime Minister, Kevin Rudd on February 13th, 2008 to the Indigenous people of Australia.

Thanks for a wonderful first week to the year, and I hope we have more weeks just like this one!
